Restoration diary
21st September 2007
Five full sets of steel frames and web floors are now fitted to 'Lucky Girl'. As a start to the replacement of the 1960's deck four of the forward deck beams have been installed. Each beam has been hand shaped and individually dovetailed into the beam shelf.
14th September 2007
The installation of the steel frames is progressing quickly. Five sets have now been formed to shape and fitted into ‘Lucky Girl’. Several of the original steel floor straps have been restored and refitted back into the vessel.
7th September 2007
Three sets of replacement steel frames have now been installed into the bow of ‘Lucky Girl’. Each of these steel frames has been shaped and bevelled to fit the original planking and timbers.
31st August 2007
The new wood keel and stem have been installed into the vessel.
Replacement steel frames have, as necessary started to be shaped, more pictures next week!
24th August 2007
'Lucky Girl' has been faithfully re-lofted from the handwritten measurements in Fife’s original notebook. These loftings have been accurately compared to the existing yacht to enable templates to be made for any steel frames which may need to be replaced.
17th August 2007
Using Fife's original drawings exact replicas of the wood keel and stem are carved out to replace the rotten remains of the originals.
10th August 2007
The lead keel has been removed for inspection and the 1960s plywood deck stripped off.
3rd August 2007
After years of storage 'Lucky Girl' has finally been moved into the Fairlie shed to commence restoration work.
