2007, A Good Year
The yard and the design office had a constant and interesting workload, kicking off with the completion and launch of ‘Altair’. Also in the shed was work for a big European project, still ongoing for 2008 plus the exciting restoration of ‘Lucky Girl’.
We have always enjoyed the external consultancy and refit projects and 2007 was no exception and is now an important and substantial part of Fairlie’s overall work load, whether a design project, a refit and restoration, Fairlie have the expertise, knowledge and capacity to work at far flung locations. With the design and the consultancy growing, Naval Architect Paul Spooner has joined Duncan Walker as a Director to cement the highly successful partnership see design office news.
In this first newsletter you will be able to get an update on the Lucky Girl refit and the return to yard of our new build yacht ‘Niebla’. The Viking Yacht Project will see sea trials this spring – keep a look out in the yachting press! At the Eastern reaches of the Mediterranean in Bozburan, Turkey some spectacular all-timber yachts are in- build with Paul Spooner and the design office involved in the rig design, engineering and naval architecture of the first two yachts. See Dream Ship Victory on the Design office News section. Last but not least, check out the charity-based Thames Sailing Barge project at the end of this news review.
