Kelpie

This Winter’s work centres around the aft 3rd of the yacht and includes a lot of structural work and decking. We are also moving the propeller off-centre to enable the closing of the rudder aperture reducing drag and re-building the cockpit to an original Mylne drawing to make it self-draining.

So far the work has uncovered a lot of structural degradation around original iron fastenings which will result in a new stern post, knee and horn timbers all of which are rotten beyond repair.

Weight reduction is also a major part of the work as Kelpie, currently 1 ton overweight, also has 1 ton missing from her keel! 150kg has already been removed simply by building a new, more original, rudder.

The final part of this year’s work will be to re-configure the deck plan to be operable without winches for racing in the Mediterranean.
